Last week I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with a childhood friend. During the years of 1964 to 1969 we spent a lot of time in each other's homes. Her house was on a big farm located on Braselton Hwy. Braselton Hwy/SR124 was a two lane blacktop then. I-85 had just opened through Gwinnett, so there was hardly any traffic on that road. I lived on Camp Branch just one tenth of a mile from I-85, one half mile from Gravel Springs road/SR 324. Now those areas are barely recognizable, especially if you have been living out of the county for the last 20 years. She and I were able to go back to her home place in the 90's and go in the house she grew up in. Even though it had changed some since she left there in 1970, it still smelled the same she said, especially upstairs. We walked down to the creek in the back of the property which was 68 acres total area. Now there is a sub division there, with only some of the trees still there. Just does not resemble the home place of her childhood. My home place looked very different to her as well. Since the last time she was there, my Dad had added a new laundry room and carport, vinyl siding, with shutters, a new front porch and asphalt on the driveways. One of the oak trees in the front yard is gone too. Now both of our parents are gone as well. It is fun to visit childhood memories and reconnect with someone who meant so much to me. I have been very blessed over the years with such good friends, and now to reminisce those long ago memories. Just keeping track...
